The “Four Aces” of Transition Success

The third highest hand in the deck, four aces is a nearly unbeatable poker hand. It’s just about the best you can get!

Of course, as any poker player knows, it is a rare hand. The probability of drawing this hand is 1-54,145. Pure math.

The good news is that in career transition “Four Aces” is not a simple matter of math. It is a function of several variables that you can directly influence.

These variables exist in everyone’s transition situation. Success is simply a matter of recognizing them, understanding their nature and then leveraging them.

The “Four Aces” of Transition Success:

ASPIRATION – What do you really want to do? What is your purpose? Where do you see yourself in the future?

AVAILABIILITY – Are you on the market? For what? Where? When?

ABILITY – Two core questions: 1. What capabilities do you bring to the job market that the market wants/needs 2. What capabilities do you bring to your transition efforts?

ACTION – What steps are you taking to assess your situation, define your target, prepare a plan, execute it, follow-up and iterate/improve?

Transition isn’t a poker game. It is life. It can be a challenging time … and it can be a fantastic adventure with a great result.

Understanding your “Aces” and leveraging them well is a smart investment in yourself.

More good news – there is a ‘wild card’ in the deck – ALIGNMENT.
