Top Down or Bottom Up?

Friday Coffee Thoughts - inspired today by my good friend Herb Thompson's recent LinkedIn post about top-down vs. bottom up planning.

I’ve seen myriad versions of both scenarios. Each have good elements and bad. Neither is optimally effective when either is not well done or well intended. The people and processes in both have to be: - well trained, developed and employed - respectful of the relationship between them - considerate of the other’s challenges - appreciative of each other’s value I’ll offer that the wise, well-developed mission planning processes the military in general and the SOF community especially, use are shining examples of how to get this right.
